At a press conference in West New York, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno announced Woodcliff Lake Mayor Carlos Rendo as her running mate---potentially making the Cuban immigrant the first Latino and male lieutenant governor in the Garden state.

Rendo, 53, is an attorney and former chair of Sen Marco Rubio's failed 2016 presidential campaign in New Jersey. Rendo said he plans to reach out to the Rubio camp for support to help Guadagno become New Jersey's next governor. “We will be reaching out to Marco for support,” he said. “We helped him here in New Jersey.” Rendo, a relative unknown and political neophyte in the political arena, has been mayor of the small north Jersey community of Woodcliff Lake since 2015.

Guadagno praised Rendo's hard work ethic and slammed opponent Phil Murphy's choice of Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver as running mate. “No one understand more than {Mayor Rendo} about working from the ground up,” Guadagno said. “I think a legislator {Oliver} is a horrible pick for New Jersey.”

According to the most recent poll from Monmouth University, Murphy has a whopping 27 point lead over Guadagno. However, a majority of New Jersey voters say they are unfamiliar with either candidate or where they stand on the issues. Carlos Medina, chairman of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey said, “I want to hear what each candidate has to say about the issues that that affect all New Jerseyans---I haven't heard many specifics from either candidate.” Election Day is November 7th.
