Some south Jersey Shore residents were dealt a big blow by New Jersey Transit officials when the major metro area travel carrier announced some changes—and cuts to service between New York City and several south Jersey communities.

Late night travelers, including some commuters between New York City will have access to one less train option between the Big Apple and Asbury Park, Belmar and Bayhead, as NJ Transit has eliminated the 1 am. --until now, the last train out of NYC to those south Jersey points. Late night commuters will now have to take the 11:18 pm., which will now become the last departure out of NYC to those points.

A 1a.m. departure from NY to Long Branch will remain, however, this will be as far south as the trains will go. In a brief statement to the media, NJ Transit officials cited costs and other factors as reasons for the elimination of the late night train service between New York and several south Jersey destinations.
