Michael Vick has won the starting quarterback position for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Vick would be the starting quarterback this season. Vick beat out Nick Foles and rookie Matt Barkley in the competition for the position.
Vick has been solid in two preseason games, and backup Foles, in his second season with the Eagles, has struggled. Vick completed 13 of 15 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown this preseason and will take a 113.2 quarterback rating into Friday's game at Jacksonville (0-2).
Foles has been sacked six times in two games, and has a quarterback rating of 65.5, after starting six games last season while Vick was injured. Foles threw for 340 yards twice as a rookie last season.
Kelly announced the decision on starting quarterback after practice on Tuesday, and after the coach met with both players. Kelly credited Foles with making the decision difficult with his performance throughout training camp and two preseason games.
“They both played at a high level,” Kelly said. “I just think that Mike played at a higher level.”
The Eagles open the regular season at Washington Sept. 9.
